Customer Successes
The capabilities and experience of Long Island Energy Partners (LIEP) are demonstrated in the following project summaries.
Crosstex International, Hauppauge, NY.
LIEP installed a state-of-the-art, 150-hp screw compressor, including new air receivers, new dryers, and new pipelines. Crosstex’s Operations Manager Carmine Todaro Jr. deems the project a big success, saying “not only did we reduce our electric bill by 15%, but we increased production and eliminated costly compressor-related downtime.” LIEP subsequently installed a comprehensive lighting program for Crosstex, and ultimately realized a 35% kWh reduction in energy use and 488 tons reduction in CO2 emissions.
Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Centerport, NY.
At this 16,000-ft2 church and 500-ft2 rectory, LIEP replaced 255 outdated lighting fixtures with high-efficiency fluorescent lamps and, in some cases, state-of-the-art LED technology. The results have been dramatic, says Msgr. Peter Ryan, “Our wattage use is way down, resulting in a 29% decrease in electric costs. Plus, we didn’t have to compromise on lighting quality or aesthetics.” Project costs were $17,440, inclusive of a $5,260 rebate from LIPA. Annual savings are $7,500, with a simple payback of 2.3 years. LIEP is currently developing a street lighting and boiler retrofit project for the parish.
Babs Corporation, Yaphank, NY.
At this 34,000-ft2 office building, LIEP replaced 288 lighting fixtures, updating them to super-efficient fluorescent lamps and electronic ballasts. In addition, LIEP installed occupancy sensors and LED Exit signs throughout the public areas. As a result of these renovations, the annual drop in kW demand is 50%, with the customer receiving a utility rebate of $7,814 and saving ~$8,500/yr on their electric bill. The simple payback on the project is 2.5 years.
Linens & Things, Long Island.
In partnership with Sylvania Lighting, LIEP evaluated over 261,000 ft2 of retail space (at seven Linen & Things stores) for a relamping program utilizing the local utility rebate program. As a result of our efforts, six stores were relamped, saving 376,311 kWh/yr, over $67,000/yr in energy cost savings, and 212 tons of CO2 emissions. In addition, a rebate of $22,500 was returned to the store owner.
GSE Dynamics, Hauppauge Industrial Park, NY.
At this aerospace manufacturing company’s 30,000-ft2 facility, LIEP replaced and retrofitted various inefficient lighting fixtures with high-output lamps and electronic ballasts. At a cost of $55,230, the project savings are accruing an annual $26,600 savings. With a LIPA rebate incentive of $11,280, the payback is estimated at 1.7 years.
New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), Old Westbury, NY.
LIEP retrofitted 646 lighting fixtures at the Institute, relamping two, 20,000-ft2 classrooms with high-efficiency lamps and electronic ballasts. At a project cost of $21,200, inclusive of a $2,700 LIPA rebate, savings of $8,800 are estimated annually. The simple payback is estimated at 2.5 years. Additional conservation projects are planned.
